Mr. Mpho Parks Tau was appointed as Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition from 3 July 2024.

He has been Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs from March 2023 to June 2024. He was Gauteng MEC for Economic Development from December 2020 to October 2022. Prior to that, he was Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs between May 2019 and December 2020.

Tau has completed studies in Public Management from Regenesys Business School and holds a Master’s degree in Public Policy & Management from the University of London.

Parks Tau is a seasoned local government practitioner and a former councilor in the Johannesburg Metro.

In 2019 Parks was appointed to the position of Deputy Minister of Cooperative Governance & Traditional Affairs by the state President Ramaphosa. He served in this position until he was appointed to the Gauteng cabinet, to serve as MEC for Economic Development, Environment, Agriculture and Rural Development in December 2020.

Deputy Minister Tau continues to demonstrate his commitment to turning our country into an equitable, non-racial, non-sexist, prosperous, and just society for all – particularly its youth and women – through the ongoing implementation of all developmental programs.
